Pursuing higher education in a foreign country requires a lot of investment. International students typically fund their higher education expenses through family sponsorship or through student loans.  But many international students are unaware of the fact that there are several scholarships available to alleviate some if not all of the financial burden.  The following are the list of Universities with scholarships for international students in Canada.  There are various scholarships available for international students based on different criteria for acceptance. Mostlt, scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit cum means but there are other financial aids available for international students based on various other factors like physically disabled, girl students, etc. In these, you have to apply for some scholarships on your own, and in some cases, you will be considered directly for that scholarship/award based on your application to the particular university. 1. University of Winnipeg

   • University of Winnipeg Manitoba Graduate Scheme(UWMGS) – It is an agreement between the University of Winnipeg and Province of Manitoba to provide scholarships for international students in Canada who are interested to do masters related to research.
   • University of Winnipeg Graduate Studies Scholarship (UWGSS) – For this, the applicants are nominated by “Graduate Program Candidate”  and the students who are into research-based, thesis-based or any related master program who enrolled for the full-time course.
   • The University of Winnipeg President’s Scholarship for World Leaders (for International Students) –The international student who is entering the first time to study in this university are eligible.
   • Linda Brown and Vana Kirby Graduate Scholarship for disabled students – This scholarship is awarded to the students who enroll for graduation at the University of Winnipeg. Mostly disabled candidates are preferred.
   • President’s Scholarship for World Leaders – for international students – This scholarship is given to the international students who enroll for the first time in the University of Winnipeg for any program and should demonstrate leadership qualities.

2. University of McGill

   • Pierre Arbour Foundation – Scholarship for Master and Doctoral level study in Computer Science and Engineering – This is open to all the Canadian citizens and also to the international students with study permit who are going to pursue their masters in McGill University in the field of Computer Science or engineering. Ph.D. candidates are also eligible except MBA candidates.
   • Need-based financial aid for future undergraduates – This provides scholarships for all the international students in Canada who are entering into the university for the first time to pursue undergraduate studies.
   • Entrance scholarships for future undergraduates – This is also applicable to the future full-time undergraduate students of McGill except for transfer, diploma, exchange and visiting students.

3. York University

   • Armand and Denise LA Barge Graduate Scholarship in Multiculturalism – This scholarship is eligible for both current and incoming students and should pursue a full-time master course in the field of study. Preferences will be given to students whose work relates to Multiculturalism, Human Rights, Cultural Diversity, Racism or similar areas.
   • Howard Daugherty International Graduate Award in Neotropical Conservation – In order to avail this scholarship the masters/doctoral students should be international with a student VISA and should do research related to neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica, and/or that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project.
   • Joyce and Fred Zemans Scholarship – For the full time registered York university master student whether can be an incoming or current student and must pursue:
     • The Graduate Program in Art History, with preference given to students in Canadian Art and/or Curatorial Studies.
     • Schulich School of Business’ MBA program, with preference given to students specializing in Arts and Media Administration.
     • Osgoode Hall Law School’s Graduate Program in Law, with preference given to students whose research focuses on Alternative Dispute Resolution or Access to Justice.
   • Sherrill Cheda Graduate Scholarship – The one eligible for this scholarship should be an incoming graduate student and should pursue women studies program and should have high academic skills.
   • YURA Graduate Student Award – This will be awarded to the full time registered York student who demonstrates financial need and either a strong commitment to volunteerism in the community or active engagement in a student leadership role.
   • Graduate Fellowship for Academic Distinction (GFAD) –  York University provides scholarships for international students in Canada and for domestic students also who posess  high potential for future leadership in international affairs, environmental protection, fine arts, and/or, political economy.

4. Fairleigh Dickinson University

   • University Provost’s Scholarship Program for Graduate Study – The student who is admitted to a master’s program at the University beginning with the Spring 2013 semester and who plan to register for at least 6 credits may apply for a University Provost’s Scholarship for Graduate Study. Students must have an undergraduate CGPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and standardized test scores (GRE, GMAT or other) that are acceptable for admission to the master’s program of their choice.
   • Col. Fairleigh S. Dickinson Scholarship – FDU provides scholarships for international students in Canada who are going to pursue their UG studies in this university. It is awarded based on academic merit. It will be up to $32,000 per year.
   • FDU International Scholarship – This will be up to $27,000 per year. The eligible ones should be the international students who are going to pursue their UG studies in FDU. It is awarded based on academic merit.
   • FDU International Graduate Scholarship – It will range from $1,000 to $10,000.  The eligible candidate should be the international students who are going to pursue their Graduate studies in FDU. It is awarded based on academic merit.

5. University of Waterloo

   • University of Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship – It is presented as one of the scholarships for international students in Canada to twenty international students who admit in the first year of any UG program.
   • International Master’s and Doctoral Student Awards (IMSA / IDSA) – The eligible students must enroll in the University of Waterloo in MA, MASC, MES, MFA, MMATH (except coursework) or MSC (except coursework) degree program or research-based Doctoral program.
   • International Master’s Award of Excellence (IMAE) – The International Master’s Award of Excellence (IMAE) will be awarded to eligible international master’s students normally entering a research-based graduate program at the University of Waterloo. 6. University of Alberta

   • General Undergraduate Scholarships: In this category there is an availability of a number of scholarships for international students in Canada:
     • International Entrance Leadership Scholarship– This will be awarded to the international students who study on a study permit and who execute leadership qualities.
     • University of Alberta Centenary Scholarship– This is awarded to students on a Study Permit with superior academic achievement entering the first year of an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta.

     • International Student Scholarship – Awarded to students with superior academic achievement entering into their first undergraduate degree program, studying on a Student Visa Permit. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement.
     • University of Alberta International Country Scholarship – Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta who are studying on a Study Permit.
     • University of Alberta Gold Standard Scholarship -The top 5% of students in each faculty could receive up to $6,000, depending on the admission average.

8. Simon Fraser University

   • Provost International Fellowship – This will be awarded to the highest achieved international students who are going to enroll in the SFU.

15. University of Calgary

    • President’s Admission Scholarships – Awarded to the students who are entering into the UG studies into the University of Calgary for the first time in the fall term and have good academic skills.
    • IB Diploma Scholarships – Awarded to the students who are entering into the UG studies into the University of Calgary for the first time in the fall term and have good academic skills after completion of their IB diploma with a minimum score of 35.
    • University of Calgary International Entrance Scholarships and Awards – Awarded to the international students who are entering into the University of Calgary for the first time full-time student to pursue UG studies and has outstanding academic achievements.

16. Dalhousie University

    • General Entrance Award Program – By filling the single application the students are eligible to many entrance awards and bursaries. This is applicable to the students who are going to enroll in the Dalhousie University for an undergraduate program.
    • For international students, including the above there are other also:
      • Richard and Melda Murray Jamaican Engineering Scholarship – Students from Jamaica who are having good academic skills and are entering to study Bachelor of Engineering.
      • CorpFinance International Limited (Kevin Andrews) Indian Bursary – Students from India having good academic skills and require financial needs and will be into Bachelor of Commerce are eligible.
