Backlogs are nowadays well prevalent in graduate courses. It happens when the student doesn’t obtain the required minimum marks for a particular subject and thereby fails the exam. Every university grants chances to clear the backlog by permitting the student to attend the exam again irrespective of the course. However, some universities may not allow the student to continue if he/she has attained the maximum number of attempts for clearing the backlogs as stipulated by the university. The Graduation certificate is only provided after clearing the backlogs.

Types of Backlogs

There are two types of backlogs namely, active backlogs and dead backlogs. Active backlogs are those in which the backlog subject or paper is yet to be cleared whereas in dead backlogs the papers are cleared. Backlog can also occur if a student fails to attend the examination. It is known as absenteeism.

Backlog certificate

A backlog certificate is a certificate provided by your university stating your active and dead backlogs. It also specifies the absenteeism and the number of attempts. Most universities do not offer a backlog certificate if the student doesn’t have a backlog. But during the admission period, some universities in USA mandates the submission of backlog certificate. In such cases, you will need to request your academic institution to issue the backlog certificate.
